Being a good dental patient means attending your regular dental appointments, but also taking care of your teeth and gums at home. We usually only see our patients twice a year, so the bulk of the year’s cleaning is on you. Cleaning your teeth regularly at home keeps your teeth from getting too much plaque build-up.
Before your visit, you may want to avoid eating, don’t brush your teeth harshly, and don’t forget any oral appliances you use. Avoiding food isn’t entirely necessary, but it’s nice to keep in mind that we’ll be subject to any food smells that are left in your mouth. Brushing your teeth lightly isn’t a bad thing, but cleaning too much before your appointment can actually impair our ability to see which areas of your mouth may be more prone to plaque buildup.
